About Me

I’m a published wildlife photographer, expedition guide, and storyteller working at the intersection of light, place, and quiet observation.

My work has taken me into the Arctic, across Svalbard, Iceland, and Scandinavia, and outward through Africa and India on bespoke photography tours. I’m drawn to environments that reward patience and presence: where weather, wildlife, and landscape unfold on their own terms, and where each moment in the field has something real to teach.

Guiding & Expedition Work

As an AECO-certified Arctic guide, much of my work has been in polar regions where safety, calm judgment, and teamwork are essential. I’ve guided zodiac operations, shore landings, hikes, and gun guard duties, and I’ve shared onboard interpretation and recaps with curious guests, always with an eye toward thoughtful engagement rather than spectacle.

Alongside Arctic expeditions, I lead small, bespoke photography tours in Africa and India. These trips are intentionally intimate and flexible, prioritising ethical wildlife encounters, strong fieldcraft, and time in the light rather than ticking lists. The practice of guiding deepens my photography; the practice of photography deepens my guiding.

Photography & Storytelling

Photography is how I pay attention. I’m not interested in collecting images, I’m interested in noticing what’s there, waiting for moments that reveal something deeper about behaviour, place, or change. I work across stills, film, and written narrative, seeking images with presence and stories with context.

My journal shares behind-the-scenes stories from the field: encounters with wildlife, reflections on experience, and insights into the craft of seeing. Whether it’s polar bears in fractured ice or the quiet patterns of a savannah morning, these stories are about how the world feels when you slow down and look.

I also host the Veterinary Ramblings podcast and produce films on my YouTube channel, platforms where storytelling meets accessibility — bridging specialist insight with wider curiosity.

Values & Ethics

Conservation & Responsibility

Working in wild places carries responsibility. I aim for work that fosters understanding rather than extraction, and images that encourage care rather than consumption.

Thoughtful Tourism

I believe in low-impact, well-managed travel that prioritises respect for local environments, communities, and regulations. Small groups and flexible pacing allow for richer experiences and less pressure on delicate ecosystems.

Access with Intention

Access to wild places is a privilege. My approach is grounded in respect, humility, and ethical engagement, not crowds, not checklists, but meaningful connection.

Storytelling with Care

Images and narratives shape how people picture the natural world. I strive for honesty and context, resisting simplification in favour of depth.

Background & Training

Before guiding full-time, I worked in senior leadership roles in safety-critical environments, experiences that underpin how I approach risk, teamwork, and responsibility in the field. I hold:

  • STCW certification
  • ENG1 medical
  • RYA Powerboat Level 2
  • AECO guide certification
  • Valid Svalbard weapon permit
  • Training and Certificates in Expedition and Wilderness Medicine and Expedition and Wilderness First Aid
